Frequently Asked Questions.

How much will it cost?

Please see our prices list .

What should I bring?

Just the dog will be fine. We can provide everything. (Food is separately charged.) But most people prefer to bring their dog's own usual food. It's generally a mistake to think they will be most comfortable in their own bed : most enjoy the novelty of trying out a different one! Favourite toys are generally taken away and kept safe until the end of the stay - but do please say if you have a special requirement.

Are there any breeds you will not take?

We will not take any "fighting" breeds, and will not take any "guarding" breeds unless it is absolutely certain that the training and socialisation is acceptable. We have no absolute rules; for example, Great Danes are very welcome, but Newfoundlands need not apply. (Too big and slobbery!) Small breeds (especially CKCSs, Chihuahuas, and Yorkshire Terriers) fit in very well, but no Boston Terriers please. (Too "yappy" and aggressive.) To be sure, please contact us. Also, we like new dogs to make a quick (free) trial visit with their owners - to check that the stay will be a happy one for dogs and humans alike. We have good knowledge of canine psychology, and can quickly assess the pack dynamic. Uncastrated males have less chance of being acceptable as our beagle is also "entire".

Are veterinary certificates needed?

We do have some veterinary rules. Dogs having the normal annual innoculations are fine. We strongly recommend additional innoculation against kennel cough.

Can you continue my dog's medication?

Yes, please write down the special instructions, and remember to bring the medication. We have extensive experience of caring for geriatric dogs too. For local customers (by special arrangement) we can even keep your vet's appointments.

How far in advance should I book?

Book as early as you can because we have to run on a first come first served basis. Holiday periods (and especially school holidays) have very high demand and are usually pre-booked very early. (The record for the earliest pre-booking is 18 months in advance!) A 20% non-refundable deposit is normally required. Full are fees payable where 7 days prior cancellation notice is not received.

How many dogs will be staying?

We have 3 dogs of our own and so try to only take 1 boarder at a time. During times of high demand, to accomodate our regular customers, we may occasionally have an additional dog. We only take dogs that we know will get along together well and, wherever possible, we will check with the owner before taking the booking. Quite often, this can enhance your own dog's enjoyment of the stay.

What if my flight gets in late or is delayed?

We are a lot more flexible than standard kennels : we can accomodate transfers between 0600 and 2100 and at weekends too. Please contact us if you expect you will arrive after 2000 hours.

Will my dog be safe?

We certainly expect so! We take security seriously, and are competant inteligent dog lovers. We like new customers to visit before the stay - so we can check that the dog will be happy, and to reassure the owners.

Will you walk my dog-off lead?

Only if you give permission, and the conditions are right. Even with permission, we only let them off in enclosed parks away from traffic, sheep cattle, and deer. Certain breeds with wander-lust (e.g. Beagles) are best kept on the lead at all times - as are certain individuals. It's actually quite easy to tell which are the sensible ones!

Can you collect/drop-off?

Yes, by arrangement, for local customers.
